to social media or not

I know there’s a debate about whether or not brands need a social media strategist; or what social media can really do for your brand... And in the case that any of you are involved in one such debate and want more information regarding the micro-blogging platform, check this article out: 40 of the best Twitter brands and people.

Brands mentioned: The HomeDepot, Best Buy, Wachovia, Portland TrailBlazers, Burger King, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc.

Some top reasons they Tweet are:
  • build awareness
  • create a community
  • enhance/diversify customer-service
  • be interesting

Enjoy!

wellsfargo/wachovia has a blog: http://blog.wellsfargo.com/wachovia/

looks like traditional institutions are becoming more involved in social technologies and seemingly making participatory experiences pleasant—time will tell.

had convo w/former client about this last night. while he is planning on cutting his ad budget this year, he's also looking at more cost efficient ways to stay relevant. enter, social media. his agency is not fluent in the ways of being a part of the conversation in social media. all they know is making pretty 4-color ads and creating :30seconds of film. he may not be alone in this. i'm wondering if there's opportunity for the many recently laid-off, brilliant ad folks can fill a void at these shops?
